The park surroundings
It’s hard to consider simply returning home, especially after experiencing the exciting paths of the Park. Luckily, Albavilla is a wonderful place, full of landscapes frozen in time.
The “Alpe del Vicerè” path
In 1810 Eugenio di Beauharnais, stepson of Napoleon Bonaparte and Viceroy of Italy, built a large shelter for his horses, on the plateau of Monte Bolettone. During the 1800s numerous findings emerged in this area, such as mollusks and shells, dating back to the Jurassic, now kept in the Civic Museum of Erba.
The “Alpe del Vicerè” Park is the perfect destination for a hike, or a relaxing break, as parking, a stone barbecue and a picnic area are available.
The Alpe can be reached by car, or by following some easy marked trails.
Other options
By parking on the Alpe del Viceré, it’s possible to set off to discover many picturesque paths, such as the Buco del Piombo, a wonderful karst cave, accessible via an accessible path.
Mantaining the same path through the woods it is possible to reach Baita Patrizi (943 m), while the paths leading to Capanna Mara (1125 m), Monte Bolettone (1318 m) and Rifugio Riella (1275 m) are considered great panoramic spots. The path that goes up to the top of Mount Palanzone (1433 m) passes through woods and meadows, filled with fragrant flowers and herbs during this beautiful season.
Romanesque churches
Those who prefer staying close the village should visit our two Romanesque churches, historical sites of great cultural interest.
The Church of the Madonna di Loreto, in the small city fraction of Molena, still preserves the original Romanesque apse, adorned with three single-lancet windows.
In the village of Corogna, the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, called by locals San Rocco, presents a perfectly preserved bell tower and some incredibly evocative frescoes of the Virgin Mary with the Child, dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
